ABOUT ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATES OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Meeting the needs of our patients is always our priority. The physicians at OASC strive to meet the highest standard of orthopedic care in a timely manner. OASC offers physicians highly trained in several sub-specialties, including sports medicine, spine surgery, interventional pain management, and joint replacement surgery.

Our large staff of physicians and clinical staff ensure your access to convenient and quality care.

Our Approach to Care:

We specialize in helping people maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. We are able to offer complete evaluation and treatment for all types of orthopaedic injuries and help each patient achieve his or her goals. Each physician will take the time to evaluate your condition and make sure you understand your diagnosis and treatment and are an active participant in the treatment process.

Treatments may include further diagnostic imaging (MRI or CT scans), physical therapy, medications, injections, or possibly surgical interventions. We take pride in the fact that virtually all of our treatments and procedures are based upon the most up-to-date research in orthopaedics and are on the forefront of innovation in their particular field.

Arthroscopic and Minimally Invasive Techniques:

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique where small incisions are made at the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, or ankle. One incision is made for the arthroscope (a camera smaller than the size of a pencil) that allows the surgeon to visualize the inside of the joint. One or more other small incisions give the surgeon access for the the surgical instruments. When compared with the traditional open surgical techniques, this involves less trauma to the soft tissues and muscle and therefore allows for a quicker, less painful recovery. This generally allows for surgeries to be performed electively and patients are able to return home the same day as surgery.

Sports Medicine:

Our team consists of experts in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of sports-related injuries. We work with athletes from all levels spanning from high school and amateur athletics to professional athletes. Our goal is to get athletes back to their pre-injury level of activity as soon as possible. Numerous treatment options are available for each type of injury and each treatment must be customized to your individual goals. While conservative, non-operative treatments should be utilized initially for orthopaedic injuries, surgical interventions are sometimes necessary. Our sports medicine experts utilize the most modern and minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques for treatment of shoulder, knee, hip, and ankle injuries.

Joint Replacement:

At OASC, our physicians will consult with patient's on the recommended treatment will be. Our physicians exhaust all conservative treatment first. For some patients, physical therapy, injections, and medications can be utilized to help manage joint pain. For others that have exhausted conservative treatment, the next options may be a joint replacement. There are several conditions that can cause joint pain and disabilities which can lead patients to consider a joint replacement. In many cases, joint pain can be caused by a number of reasons- damage to cartilage that lines the ends of the bones, arthritis, and fractures.

Spine Surgery:

Spine surgery is designed to help alleviate nerve induced pain. Surgical candidates typically present neck or low back pain which radiates down the upper or lower extremities. Conservative management is the first line of treatment and patients are often referred for physical therapy and interventional pain management prior to any surgical considerations. The majority of the surgeries are carried out using minimally invasive techniques (MIS) which help preserve the patient’s normal anatomy and minimize intraoperative and postoperative blood loss and pain.
