Henry Gass, MD

Dr. Henry Gass is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. A former NCAA football player at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, Dr. Gass graduated summa cum laude before earning his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
While serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Gass completed his orthopedic surgery internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth before training at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola. He was then assigned as Flight Surgeon to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 312 in Beaufort, South Carolina, and was named Marine Aircraft Group 31 Flight Surgeon of the Year in 2018.
After leaving the Navy, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, where he won the Southern Region Orthopedic Resident Skill Competition and received the Thomas Moore Sr. Mentorship Award. He then completed his fellowship in Sports Medicine at Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, California, where he was selected for the JRF Traveling Fellowship in osteochondral allograft surgery. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications on shoulder replacement, rotator cuff repair, hip arthroscopy, and complex fracture care.
Drawing on his experience as both a Navy flight surgeon and an NCAA student-athlete, Dr. Gass has provided sideline coverage for high school and collegiate programs including Georgia Tech Volleyball, Dana Hills High School Football, and Golden West College Football. He treats injuries of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee in athletes and non-athletes alike, and is dedicated to helping active patients of all ages get back to the sports and activities they enjoy.
